Ethiopia has a long history with ethnic, linguistic and cultural diversity that predates the Roman Empire and ancient Greece. It has more than 80 ethnic, cultural and linguistic groups.

Ethiopia is known as the origin of the most ancient human remains. It offers the most dramatic scenery of unsurpassed grandeur, unique rock-hewn churches, the spectacular Blue Nile Falls, the Great Rift Valley, the Danakil Depression, imperial castles, monuments of an ancient civilization linked with the legend of the Queen of Sheba. Ethiopia is also the avifauna of many endemic bird species.

During the 1st Millennium BC, Semitic people from Saba’ (Hebrew Sheba) crossed the Red Sea and conquered the Hamite on the coast of what was eventually to become the Ethiopian empire. The Queen of Sheba’s son, Menelik I, is regarded as the first emperor of Ethiopia. By the 2nd Century AD the victors had established the kingdom of Axum. The kingdom was ruled by the Solomonic Dynasty, so called because the kings claimed direct descent from the biblical King Solomon and the Queen of Sheba. The then king of Axum, Ezana, has converted to Christianity in 340 A.D and Ethiopia became the first Christian state
